Course must have been long :-) just like the wetsuits are getting smaller.

PROS: Perfect running weather Flat course with opportunities to see the front runners because of the turnaround. Well marked, plenty of volunteers Water/Gatorade and timing clock at every mile Well organized post-race
CONS: 13,000 people is about 4,000 too many for a race that starts in downtown Boston If they keep the numbers this high, they need to invest in more port-a-potties The two races (5 miles and half) should have staggered starts I think the course was a little long. I overheard a few people saying their GPSs showed a longer distance than the 13.1
MEMORABLE MOMENTS: Arriving at Dunkin' Donuts at 5:45am, only to learn it wasn't open yet. Arriving at DD #2 and placing an order, only to learn that the baker never showed up and therefore they had no bagels Seeing a shiny iPhone in the port-a-potty. Yes, I said IN the port-a-potty. Seeing the third place female at about mile 8 and hearing her yell to her friends (directly behind me) that she had one too many beers last night Passing MIT and seeing ten Boston police cars lined up with lights on, along with the officers standing in front of them and cheering. A huge banner with Sean Collier's name was displayed on the median. Hearing "You down with OPP?" blasting onto the race course at mile 5ish

Agree, there were too many runners. Joc, Lisa and I started at the back and it was slow for the first 5 miles. I didn't feel like I could get a steady pace for most of it. With that aside, I had a blast. Pros- Paying my sons with Joc's choc chip cookies, Lisa bought them beer and I gave them cash and they drove in Saturday and picked up our race bags. Getting off the Pike that was backed up for miles, having no idea where we were going, but landing in a free parking spot 1/4 mile from the race. Using the a beautiful hotel around the corner and not porta potties! Just doing it and finishing I guess I'm getting old because these are my highlights

Matt Bergiel also raced the Half. I'm surprised I didn't see anyone else!

Dave, I didn't see anyone either! Wish I knew you were running - I would've tried to hang with you. For the first mile.

Interesting stats:
The last (and only) time I did this race was 2007. There were 3271 runners. The overall winner finished in 1:13:22 (5:36 pace). Brian Hughes came in 5th overall in 1:18:45. I finished 48/1796 females overall with 1:40:40. I remember it was a hot day. A lot of people didn't finish.
This year there were 13,000 runners. I was 982 overall. The overall winner finished in 1:15:39 (5:47 pace). It was an overcast day with perfect running conditions.
Overcrowded?

Margaret hit the highlights for me too…free parking, not having to wait in line to register, not having to use the porta-potties. It's the little things. I had a blast! I was just so happy to finish and I actually felt really good. Joc and I ran together until mile 12. Our last two miles were our fastest. I would say the first 6-7 miles went by really fast, but that's probably because Jocelyn and I were talking the whole time. We finally shut up about mile 9 or 10. I liked the course a lot…I thought is was really fun to run in Boston and it was flat…I LOVE flat (on the run). If I were to do it again I would not start at the 10:00 pace marker. We passed people the entire race, obviously no one seeds themselves even remotely close to their actual pace. I had about 13.4 for the mileage, I know Joc was also well over 13.1…but hard for me to believe that course wouldn't be accurately measured, more likely our watches. The time on my watch was within 10 seconds of my official time. Who knows. I agree with V, I don't know why they started the 5 mile race (4000 people) with the half marathon (8000). It did help once the 5 milers split off. Although we did get to run with Julie for the first few miles.

Best pre race ever, as per Margaret Felt weird not running with the baby stroller. Chatting with Lisa kept me going. Our last two miles suggest that we could have gone a little faster, but that would not have been nearly as enjoyable, haha!
